NomadVillage has been selected by the Selection Committee of the Social Entrepreneurship Incubator of the “La Estrella” Social Innovation Center, an initiative promoted by the Ciudad Rodrigo Foundation, to participate in the first edition of its incubation program.
The decision was adopted during the Committee meeting held on July 31 and the training process will begin on September 21, 2026.
About the Social Entrepreneurship Incubator
CIS “La Estrella” opened its first call in 2026 aimed at entrepreneurs, startups, and social entities with projects capable of generating social, economic, and environmental impact in the territory.
The initiative is part of the project “Social and digital innovation as a response to depopulation”, promoted by the Ciudad Rodrigo Foundation, and has the backing of the Provincial Council of Salamanca, the City Council of Ciudad Rodrigo, and various social organizations in the region.
The program is aimed at a maximum of twenty initiatives with projection in the 57 municipalities of the Ciudad Rodrigo, Vitigudino, and Sierra de Francia regions. It will offer specialized training, mentoring, and support aimed at consolidating viable and scalable proposals.
What this selection means for NomadVillage
The candidacy presented by NomadVillage proposes activating a territorial pilot in Ciudad Rodrigo and Fuentes de Oñoro, with a complementary cross-border dimension towards Almeida and Vilar Formoso, on the Portuguese side of the Raya.
The project responds to three connected challenges in this region: rural depopulation, the underutilization of housing and local heritage, and the international expansion of remote work.
Through its digital intermediation model, NomadVillage connects international digital nomads with verified rural accommodations for medium- and long-term stays. The model integrates cultural experiences, rural coworking, a hyperlocal marketplace for proximity products called VillageBox, and territorial strategic consulting services for participating municipalities.
Joining this incubator reinforces NomadVillage’s bond with the institutional ecosystem of western Salamanca and provides a technical support framework to advance in the validation of the pilot in the Spanish-Portuguese Raya.
This selection confirms that NomadVillage’s proposal connects with concrete priorities of the territory: economic revitalization, digitalization, and cross-border cooperation. We begin this stage with a realistic roadmap and with the willingness to build, together with CIS “La Estrella” and local agents, a model that generates measurable results for Ciudad Rodrigo and its surroundings.

Next steps
The NomadVillage team will continue developing territorial mapping activities, recruiting local collaborators, and validating accommodations in the Ciudad Rodrigo and Fuentes de Oñoro area.
These actions will be carried out in line with the proposal presented to the call and will serve to prepare the start of the incubation program, scheduled for September 21.
NomadVillage thanks the Selection Committee and the Ciudad Rodrigo Foundation for the trust placed in the project. The progress of the pilot and the incubation process will be communicated periodically through this space.
